Moss Wood 2014 Pinot Noir – Halina Young, Australian Chinese Times
Wine wrap Pinot prowess
Moss Wood has built its reputation on producing benchmark Cabernets. Alongside these, it produces a range of wines which includes whites, red blends and Pinot Noir. Its Pinot Noir vines are the oldest in Margaret River and it shows. In the current release of Moss Wood wines I had the chance to sample Moss Wood 2014 Pinot Noir. While it is a young wine it shows all the finesse of a mature wine. The wine presents with a light plum, cherry colour. The aromas and flavours are all about cherries and strawberries by the basketful. Aromas of cherry, violets, some earthiness and a hint of spice lead the way for a rich silky smooth texture and mouth filling flavours of strawberry and luscious plum. The oak used is balanced and adds to the elegance of the wine. It is a delicious wine, with great length, it is bright and bouncy and just beaming with character and taste. It will win over new red wine drinkers. Track one down, drink it now and save one or two for the cellar if you can. A Pinot of poise and prowess.
