Moss Wood 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon – Gary Walsh, Wine Front
Moss Wood 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon – Gary Walsh, Wine Front
Well they say the exception proves the rule and this is the best Cabernet I’ve tasted from the 2006 Margaret River vintage. There’s a bit of window dressing via some highly attractive chocolate and lead pencil oak but there’s a core of sweet red fruit too that has a classic and graceful sort of charm. A light gamey earthiness with a flicker of menthol and gum leaf add interest – but pose no significant problems with regards to ripeness. It’s just medium bodied, fluid and fresh with light fine grained tannins and no shortage of length. A pretty wine of delicacy and poise, more to Claret in style, although perhaps not a great example of Moss Wood.
