Rare beauties – Moss Wood 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
Excerpt from article “Rare beauties”
“…Far more predictable was the quality of the 2005 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon. That was remarkably good vintage for the Margaret River region, particularly for the better sites that ripened before showers in April and late March put a dampener on things. And as the Moss Wood team harvested the cabernet on March 19, it had exceptionally good fruit to work with.
Vintage notes compare the 2005 with the awesome 2001, the 1996 and 1995. I admit that I’m not that experienced with young Moss Wood cabernets as I tend to drink them from 10 years old, so I’ll take Keith Mugford’s word on the comparisons. I will admit, however, to being surprised by the precociously bright fruit, and the youthful exuberance of the wine. It has fabulous structure and a great deal of depth and concentration, so I have little doubt that it will be a good 10-20 year prospect.…”
