Moss Wood 2020 Pinot Noir – Casey Bryan, Travelling Corkscrew
Say hello to the newly released 2020 Moss Wood Pinot Noir retailing at approximately $75.
You don’t get a huge amount of Pinot out of Margaret River (WA) and of the ones you do, Moss Wood definitely know how to grow Pinot in the area and have been since the 70s.
A rouge hailstorm impacted the 2020 vintage. Which meant less fruit than normal however bar this, the fruit had some decent weather and yields are comparative to their elusive 1981 vintage which was still standing strong last year at 40 years old! I am jealous of those who got to try it
All wine talk and technicalities aside, I enjoyed every drop of this Pinot and if you have the patience to give it some time in the cellar, you’re going to thank yourself.
In the glass it’s a true gem – shiny Ruby red. Wonderful red fruit aromas mixed with dark fruits of the forest dominate the nose for me. Berries, earth, oak trees… it’s rather enchanting. While in the mouth it’s juicy and flavoursome with red fruit intensity, great refreshing acidity and some decent grippy yet elegant tannins for a Pinot. An everlasting finish is the cherry on top. A beauty from top to bottom.
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
