Moss Wood History - 1976
Moss Wood Chardonnay planted
The Margaret River Wine Region is internationally recognised as a premium producer of Chardonnay.
Chardonnay was not planted at Moss Wood until suitable cuttings became available in Western Australia in 1976.
The public did not see a Moss Wood Chardonnay until the 1983 vintage.
The first vintage of Chardonnay, in 1980, was not released commercially and the next two crops were destroyed by adverse flowering conditions including hail, a rare frost for the region and severe winter rain.
