Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon – Stuart Knox, The Real Review

Deep and vibrant ruby red with a bouquet of cassis, tobacco, and pencil shavings. Medium bodied but with a sense of intensity to its black fruit that demands your attention. Hints of black spices and curing meat add to the attraction and firm tannins are well poised to carry the entire package long and lingering. Still youthful, it will reward further cellaring if you have the patience.

Moss Wood 2021 Amy’s – Winsor Dobbin, Winsor’s Choice

A bottle of Moss Wood 2021 Amy's Vintage laying on a table with a full glass of wine

This is not the most expensive wine in the excellent Moss Wood range, nor is it the highest profile, But it is certainly one of the best value: a medium-bodied Bordeaux blend from Margaret River with impeccable balance and dangerous drinkability. The blend is 68% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 7% malbec and 5% petit verdot – so very Left Bank influenced. Plenty of colour, oodles of flavour with older French oak contributing complexity without any obvious influence on the ripe, dark fruit characters. Silky, soft and seductive and ready for immediate enjoyment. We enjoyed this with croquettes made from leftover turkey, but it would pair well with just about any red or white meat dish.

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon – Angus Hughson, Winepilot

Here we have a real claret style – a highly pure and elegant Cabernet blend with a smattering of other Bordeaux varieties. It opens with bright and appealing aromas of red and black currant fruits with dried herbs in support all well integrated with high quality oak. It’s then mid-weight and poised yet with quite a sturdy structure backed by dark, gravelly flavours topped by a violet lift before delivering a long, sinewy finish. Impressive but needs a couple of years to settle.

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2020 Merlot – Angus Hughson, Winepilot

The twin to the Ribbon Vale Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the Merlot dominant version with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in support. This is initially a pretty and elegant style, the Cabernet Franc adding delicious subtlety. The wine bursts with vibrant red currant, graphite and pine needle aromas, stylish oak couched in just behind. The palate then shows an impressive mix of concentrated, fleshy fruits and structure – leafy, mulberry flavours with gravel complexity underpinned by firm chalky tannins. The balance and length are exceptional and this may in time become something truly special.

Moss Wood 2021 Amy’s – Angus Hughson, Winepilot

A bottle of Moss Wood 2021 Amy's Vintage laying on a table with a full glass of wine

This bright and aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon blend is beautifully approachable as it delivers an elegant expression of Margaret River. It opens with aromas of fruits of the forest and dried herbs with floral touches and a gravelly edge. Mid-weight and more reserved than the current releases of Ribbon Vale, a bright line of fresh acidity provides impact to the supple flavours with chalky tannins adding a gentle grip. It’s an early drinking style but with plenty of complexity.

Moss Wood 2022 Semillon – Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review

Deep lemon, heady notes of toasted almonds, lemon cheesecake, cut grass and white florals tempt the nose. While the nose hints towards richness there’s a simmering energy on the palate which brings balance to the wine. This wine appeals with its complexity and authority, most importantly though it’s delicious.

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2020 Merlot – Fergal Gleeson, Great Wine Blog

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Merlot is frequently listed by Wine Critics as one of Australia’s greatest Merlots.

It’s modelled on Premier Grand Cru St Emillion and Pomerol wines that are amongst the most coveted in the world.

Pretty florals and dark berries on the. On the palate Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2020 shows impeccable balance.

Ripe and unripe plum flavours, pencil lead and tobacco come to mind. Medium to full bodied, structured whilst retaining a fresh finish.

The 2020 is 88% Merlot and 6% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc.

The addition of Cabernet Sauvignon is new, included after trials showed that it enhanced palate weight and structure.

RV Merlot has a great track record over recent vintages but this is one of the best. I’ve no doubt that the inclusion of the Cabernet has given it an extra dimension.

Moss Wood 2021 Amy’s – Fergal Gleeson, Great Wine Blog

A bottle of Moss Wood 2021 Amy's Vintage laying on a table with a full glass of wine

Moss Wood Amy’s 2021 delivers a lot of wine for the price.
It’s a Cabernet led blend made in a drink now style. A full bodied wine with juicy, succulent fruit complimented by balancing freshness on the finish.
There’s great depth to the fruit but also tar and leather to make it interesting so this not a one dimensional fruit bomb.

The blend is 68% Cabernet, 20% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 5% Petit Verdot.
Moss Wood are one of Australia’s greatest Cabernet winemakers and Amy’s is your best chance to taste that magic for c$40 a bottle.
This is a Bordeaux blend at it’s most accessible, plush and generous with soft tannins.

Unquestionably delicious!
