I had the great pleasure of participating in a tasting at Vasse Felix in Margaret River last month designed to celebrate the region’s half-century. Vasse Felix’s winemaker Virginia Willcock, Australian wine writer James Halliday, honorary Australian and fine-wine specialist Andrew Caillard MW and I led the tasting attended by leading local winemakers and commentators from all over the world. Moss Wood 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon
Bright crimson with a pale rim. A very delicate touch – some ‘mineral’ notes and lots of lift. Is this due to the Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc? I actually wondered about Merlot but perhaps only because the label reminds me of Pichon Lalande! Very smooth, well-worked tannins. Hint of saltiness on the end. Much more approachable than the Cullen Diana Madeline 2004. Drink 2010-2027
