Moss Wood 2022 Semillon – Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot
Moss Wood 2022 Semillon – Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot
2022 is a year that locals are raving about in Margaret River, but then there are people on this planet who have lived long and fulfilling lives and during that time, have never seen a dud vintage in the region. Their scale goes from very good to outstanding, it seems. Good luck to them, and even better luck for us. We get to drink the stuff. That said, when the locals are talking about having to go back forty years to find a vintage this good, it must be really special. The wine saw only stainless steel and was bottled as quickly as they could, to take advantage of the freshness.
A very pale yellow in hue. The nose is refined, hints of the traditional WA lean and green, but well balanced and appealing. There is bright acidity running the length, to a long, lingering finish. A touch of lemongrass here, notes of ginger and citrus. Finely balanced, this will drink well for at least the next five to six years and may need even longer to show all its glories. Ideal with some top seafood.
