Moss Wood 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon – Gary Walsh, Wine Front
Well they say the exception proves the rule and this is the best Cabernet I’ve tasted from the 2006 Margaret River vintage. There’s a bit of window dressing via some highly attractive chocolate and lead pencil oak but there’s a core of sweet red fruit too that has a classic and…

An elegant, fine, supple and slightly herbaceous cabernet blend of pleasing prettiness and charm. Its dusty, leafy bouquet of violets, mulberries and cassis, sweet cedar/vanilla oak reveals forest floor-like undertones, hints of tobacco and dried herbs. Supple and restrained, its loose-knit palate of vibrant dark berry fruit and sweet chocolate/vanilla…

An elegant rather than blockbuster red with aromatic floral and red berry characters. What it lacks in intensity it more than makes up in power and extraordinary flavour length. Finely-tuned red that achieves a perfect balance of delicate sweet fruit with gently drying tannins. Great potential 7/6/2010 The most expensive…

This is Margaret River Cab at its best: silky and Claret-like but with the extra flesh of the New World. Pipe tobacco and cedar flow together seamlessly into a long, cool finish. Delicious now, and should age gracefully through 2020.

Supple, round and appealing for its spicy cherry and black tea flavors, which are balanced against refined tannins, finishing with persistence. Drink now through 2016. 2,600 cases made.

Some tobacco, cassis and cedar aromas and a hint of herbaceousness with lifting the palate perhaps, but suggesting a difficult cooler year. While this wine will age gracefully for the next five to eight years, the expression of secondary notes emerging suggests a shorter cellaring proposition than the top vintages.

Medium red-purple, not dark. Red berries and dried herbs, some walnuts, clean and fresh. Fruit-driven, not oaky. Lighter-bodied and lean, lacking the usual Moss Wood richness. But it’s a lovely wine: fresh, ripe and elegant. From a cold year, but no green tannins. Stylish, balanced wine with a lot of…

The colour is the first and unequivocal pointer to the very difficult (rainy) vintage; however, ruthless selection of grapes ex the vineyard, and wine in the barrel, has resulted in a well-balanced early drinking style which retains the particular soft Moss Wood stamp.

A surprisingly oaky nose but with lots of dried figs and nutty, oatmeal, yeasty flavours and complexity, plus a touch of woody dryness coming in near the end of a tight, balanced, clean and long-finishing palate. Try it with the sweetness of crayfish sauteed in butter.

Wine wrap Pinot prowess Moss Wood has built its reputation on producing benchmark Cabernets. Alongside these, it produces a range of wines which includes whites, red blends and Pinot Noir. Its Pinot Noir vines are the oldest in Margaret River and it shows. In the current release of Moss Wood…
Read ReviewMoss Wood 2011 Pinot Noir – Fergal Gleeson, greatwineblog.com
Moss Wood Pinot Noir 2011 is a polished and highly drinkable wine. It tastes of red fruits and has the lightest of dusty tannins. It’s not showing many signs of it’s 6 years of age and still has years ahead of it if you wish. It will hold it’s own…

The quality blend has a creamy stone fruit texture with a light lift of tropical fruit and citrus.
Read ReviewMoss Wood Ribbon Vale 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon – Bob Campbell, bobcampbell.nz
Elegant, powerful cabernet sauvignon, with classical varietal flavours of cedar, cassis and a suggestion of green olive. A tight, linear wine with an impressively lingering finish. While it is easy to appreciate now the wine will clearly repay cellaring.

Tight, linear and clearly youthful semillon with green apple, mineral and lemon zest flavours plus a suggestion of wild flowers supported by steely acidity. The wine has an appealing texture and good palate weight. Clearly a long-distance runner – I’d love to try it in another decade.

A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot. An approachable wine with appealing sweet plum, berry and spice flavours. Fine tannins give a drying finish, but the wine is still very accessible.

Quite an elegant and moderately complex merlot with new leather, bacon, earth, plum and red berry flavours together with a seasoning of spicy oak. Fine tannins give the wine a drying and rather lengthy finish. A serious red with cellaring potential.

Intense chardonnay with citrus, grapefruit, gun flint, toast and nutty oak flavours undershot with vibrant acidity. The wine is a little closed right now and will clearly benefit from bottle development although it can certainly be appreciated. A classy chardonnay.

The Moss Wood 2014 Ribbon Vale Merlot is deep purple and has berry pastille aromas and plush mulberry front-palate flavour. The middle palate has plum, spearmint, cloves and savoury oak and chalky tannins show at the finish. Ribbon Vale is close to the original Moss Wood vineyard at Wilyabrup.

Intense mix of lime and lanolin on the nose, then more herbal on the palate. Fine freshness and lovely depth of fruit, nutty finish, promising much greater complexity. Citrus dominates now. (JH) Drink 2017-2024 17+ points
