Moss Wood Ribbon Vale 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon – Jancis Robinson – jancisrobinson.com
Wilyabrup cited on the label. Very green, fresh and crisp with the Sauvignon dominating for the moment but with a bit of lanolin underneath that presumably owes something to the Sémillon. Only medium weight and lots of tanginess. Very appetising and likely to improve. 16.5

Pale lemon yellow. Strong citrus notes and still quite lean in terms of weight and acidity but with admirable satin texture. This should improve. 16

Wilyabrup. Dark crimson. Complex balsam scents with quite a bit of subtlety. Some plum fool aromas. Firm acidity and pretty youthful with light tannins well in evidence. Definitely more tarry than luscious. I’d wait before opening this. 16.5

Dark crimson with blackish notes. Much more winning and ripe than the Ribbon Vale bottling. Broad and creamy on the nose with real sweetness as it hits the palate and then it tightens up on the end. Very lightly minty notes with real freshness on the end and excellent balance…

Wilyabrup on the front label – in small letters. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec grown in the Glenmore vineyard. Mid crimson. Rather young and callow on the nose. Marked acidity on the end. Still very youthful. 16

Flinty nose, quite restrained compared with the 2015 Wilyabrup Semillon. Undertow of wet stones on the nose and then very dramatic breadth and ripeness on the palate. Very taut and tense. Very vibrant finish. Lots of excitement here. 17

Wilyabrup on the front label. Rich, broad, lanolin nose. Already enjoyable in a cross between lemon oil and unsweetened lime juice way. So much acidity it will surely last very well. It should take on more depth. 16.5+

Bright deep ruby hue and initially showing quite ripe and fleshy fruit. But underneath lie brooding and dense Cabernet aromatics – ripe blackberry, cedar and gravel with well integrated new French oak. In the mouth the wine is dry, full bodied with significant but beautifully fine grained tannins that drive…

Opaque ruby and showing mulberry, leaf, sage and cassis fruits that are ample yet reserved with balanced new oak. Dry and sturdy in the mouth – a masculine style for Moss Wood – and still relatively closed with well proportioned tannins and exceptional length, it is a wine that will…

Bright pale gold in colour – a serious chardonnay with red apple, white peach aromatics supported by high quality and well integrated spicy French oak. Deeply coloured with classic cedar/graphite/leafy/cassis aromatics underpinned by superb oak. A forthright Cabernet, medium to full-bodied with fruit, oak and tannins all making significant contributions. It is easy to see why the wine was given such a lengthy stay in oak – it must have been a handful when young. Even now it is chock-full of blackcurrant fruit and bay…
